We read in Psalm 37:23 that “the steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD.” It goes on to read, that “he delighteth in his way.” This means that the one who is on the path God has given will be delighted (happy, content, joyful). If the steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, then I want to be a good man. I want to be pleasing to God.
What makes one a good man? The Bible says in Romans 3:10-12 that there is none who does good and none righteous. How then, can we be good men and women? Quite simply, we must obey the voice of God and become sensitive to the Spirit.
The good man is delighted in the way of God because in Him, is the fullness of Joy! In Him, is the peace that passes understanding! Joy and peace are so powerful that the true essence of them is only found in Jesus.
Romans 8:14 says, “For as many are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.” The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells inside us through the power of the Holy Ghost. That same Spirit brings life abundance, joy unspeakable, everlasting life, and peace. How can we be peaceful and delighted in this life with the turmoil and strife we may face?
Being a Christian does not mean nothing bad will ever happen to us. Matthew 5:45 says it rains on the just and the unjust. Being good does not remove us from living life, rather it gives us the hope of life eternal with Christ, which brings delight and peace. If we are truly led by the Spirit, we are allowing our own steps to be ordered by the Lord. While this is not always comfortable, it will always be right. It is God’s will that none should perish!
If we are truly led by the Spirit, we are allowing our own steps to be ordered by the Lord.

If our steps are ordered by God, and we are truly good men and women, we will allow God to utilize us—even when it is inconvenient and uncomfortable. Too often we find ourselves trying to order our own steps with our own agendas and desires. Because of our self-serving tendencies, we miss out on what God wants to do for us and through us. The church needs to get baptized with the Spirit again and receive a renewed sense of purpose in the kingdom of God and a fresh burden for souls.
Pastor Sam Emory said something along the lines of, “We should be looking for where God is moving,” and that statement has impacted my life. I hope this year that we, the body of Christ, can walk in love and peace. God is up to something big, and I want to be a part of it! I want to be right in the middle of what He is doing.
There’s an old song that says, “If you can use anything Lord, you can use me.” Let that be our song and prayer as we allow God to order our steps.
