Disturbed Into Destiny

A few weeks ago, during our Father’s Day service, we had a visiting minister join us. He was speaking about Joseph and how he understood that this earth is not our home. I’ll be honest: I tuned out just for a brief moment but my attention was quickly grabbed when I heard the phrase “disturbed into destiny.”

What disturbs you? What shakes you to your absolute core? Have you ever experienced a life-changing situation that propelled your life in a completely different direction? Has tragedy ever knocked on your door and changed who you are as a person?

Joseph was hated and betrayed by his own brothers, sold into slavery, wrongly accused of a heinous crime, forgotten about, and the list goes on. He faced so many horrors that one has to wonder how he managed to not only survive but also thrive. His betrayal is the moment he was disturbed into destiny; for the very course of his life was altered.

If God spoke it into your life, He desires for it to come to pass.

Armed with a dream, Joseph began the hardest season of his life. He appeared to have little to no control of what was transpiring around him, but behind the scenes God was at work. God orchestrated the entire timeline perfectly so that a horrible situation could eventually be reversed, and the entire human race would be saved.

Joseph was a dreamer, which to some has a negative connotation attached to it, but in reality he was aware and confident in what God had spoken to him. He was able to see beyond the pain of the moment, and he understood that God was still God and that He was in absolute control.

Being aware and confident in your calling doesn’t necessarily mean knowing all the details; it means you trust a Sovereign God who does all things well. Paul tells us,

Furthermore, because we are united with Christ, we have received an inheritance from God, for he chose us in advance, and he makes everything work out according to his plan.

Ephesians 1:11, KJV

Do not be afraid to pray the prayer, “disturb me Lord.” The sacrifice will most likely be great, but God’s plan is always perfect. Joseph had no idea he would be asked to essentially give up his family and to carry the burden of saving humanity from a famine, but he was equipped for the task. He had a dream and direction from the King of kings, and that was enough.

You know that dream or word that God spoke to you which you probably have placed on the back burner of life? I dare you to revisit it today. If God spoke it into your life, He desires for it to come to pass. Cancel out the noise of the naysayers with the voice of God, and silence the enemy with truth from the Word of God.

You can be used. You have been called to a higher calling. God wants to take you deeper than ever before.
