One warm day just before they were married, Bill was working with Ruth’s father in the fields, gathering hay, when one of the local ministers came by to ask if they would go with him to visit a sick person. Bill readily agreed, not knowing that his father-in-law had previously arranged this. Little did he realize they were going to a lunatic asylum.
Entering through the big wrought-iron gates onto the gravel drive, his heart was touched by the blank looks of the patients who peered at them. At the reception they were given numbers, and had to linger in the waiting room until their number was called. When their turn came, a guard with a big ring of keys opened a massive door leading into a wide corridor. He beckoned to them to follow him closely.
They had just entered the corridor when a man of about forty, whom Bill had never laid eyes on before, gently walked up towards him. Then, unexpectedly, the inmate put his hand on Bill’s shoulders, and staring him in the eye said, “I know you – you’re Bill Drost.”
Bill was totally stunned. They were in London, Ontario and he knew not one person in the institution; he did not even know the man they were going to see. Instantly he felt a quickening of the Holy Spirit, and felt he had met face to face with a man being used of the Devil Himself. Bill looked the man in the eye and replied, “I rebuke you, you demon of hell!”
“Ah. . .” the man screamed, jumped, turned, and ran to two or three other inmates in the corridor. They joined hands encircling Bill, dancing around and singing in weird chorus, reminiscent of the Witches in Hamlet.
“Bill Drost, the Pentecost! Bill Drost, the Pentecost!”
It had happened so quickly that the guard had not had time to respond; they all simply looked on in amazement.
Finally, the guard ushered the prancing inmates away and as they went forward, Bill felt prepared in the Spirit for any event that Satan would throw up.
They were led through a locked door into a padded cell. . . One single bed was in the room. On it, chained at each leg and hand, was a completely demented man.
“Let us pray,” said the minister, kneeling beside the bed. Soon he was praying in tongues very fervently when, all of a sudden, the man levitated up from the bed to the very length of the chains. He then let out a piercing scream saying, “Babylon! Babylon! All is Babylon!”
Immediately, feeling the power of the Holy Ghost, Bill rebuked the demon in the name of Jesus Christ. To the surprise of all, a calm settled straight over the man, who then looked up to Bill’s father-in-law and said, “Archie, what am I doing here?” A number of days later, the man was released.
